About Us
LIFEE, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the life outcomes of our most vulnerable youth by providing systems of support to the children and the adults in their lives. Our mission is to eliminate the resource, opportunity, access, and performance gaps in marginalized school communities by providing professional development, school improvement consultation, and programming for students, staff, and stakeholders with a primary focus on alternative and non-traditional learners and educational settings.
We understand that disenfranchised schools and communities face unique challenges that require innovative and targeted solutions. That is why we work closely with stakeholders to identify internal and external barriers in order to design services that are tailored to the specific needs of the school community.
We envision a society where every young person has the opportunity to become a productive, successful, and knowledgeable leader with a strong sense of emotional intelligence. We believe that these empowered leaders will go on to fight for social justice and create a more equitable, just, and compassionate world.
Our Approach
LIFEE, Inc. offers a range of services that address the professional development and support needs of marginalized school communities. Our services include virtual and in-person professional development, individual and group coaching, consultative services, programming for students and stakeholders, and school-wide performance improvement facilitation. All services are grounded in research and aligned to the L.I.F.E.E. principles:
LIFEE Principles
Skilled
Schools and programs need skilled leaders who are able to navigate challenges like lack of resources and social and cultural barriers in order to create a culture of inclusivity, equity and support for students and their families. Leaders also need to advocate for the needs of the school community to help ensure that ALL students have access to a high-quality education and support which can lead to greater academic success and overall well-being.
Leadership
Effective
Effective instruction helps to address the achievement gap by engaging students in meaningful, relevant, and real-world activities in a culturally responsive learning environment. Effective instruction promotes equity by providing ALL students with high quality learning experiences and opportunities while challenging teachers to hone their craft by enhancing their instructional toolkit with strategies that meet the needs of ALL learners.
Instruction
Increased
Students from marginalized communities may face significant challenges outside of school, such as poverty, homelessness, and/or a lack of access to resources. Stakeholders can help provide support and resources to help students overcome these challenges and succeed in school. Increased family and community engagement can help to build stronger, more connected communities, which can benefit students in a variety of ways both in and out of school.
Family and Community Engagement
Quality
Students with special needs may struggle to succeed academically and socially if the necessary interventions and support to help overcome barriers are not in place. Access to a quality exceptional student education program can have a significant impact on students’ long-term outcomes including their ability to graduate high school, pursue higher education, and succeed in life
Exceptional Student Education
High
In marginalized school communities, students may have experienced trauma, poverty, discrimination, or other forms of adversity that can impact their social and emotional development. Similarly staff members in marginalized school communities may experience stress and burnout due to the high demands of their jobs and the difficulties in working in under-resourced and disadvantaged environments.. High EI in students and staff can contribute to a positive school climate, academic success, and overall well-being. It can empower individuals to better understand and manage their emotions, develop strategies to cope with stress and adversity, and build stronger connections with others.
